The Storm Winds diaries

Birth! Sunday July 3rd 2005

After a wild blazing romance, a swirling pregnancy and a stormy delivery they are born: our four little storm winds! I am proud to introduce to the world :

Leste

(Aeris Leste Feline Fantasy) is our brown tabby girl.

At birth her weight was 118 gram.

The first part of her name, Aeris, is the Latin word for Wind. Aeris is our litter name.

The Leste is a hot, dry eastern wind that blows Madeira and the Canary Isles.

Cane

(Aeris Hurricane Feline Fantasy) is our cream tabby boy.

At birth his weight was 131 gram.

The Hurricane is a severe tropical storm with wind speeds of 150 up to 250 km per hour. This storm is well known over the Atlantic, the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and the eastern part of the Pacific. The name Hurricane refers to the Indian storm god Huracan.

Misty (Aeris Mistral Feline Fantasy) is our blue torby girl.

At birth her weight was 105 gram, she is our smallest baby.

The Mistral is a cold wind, so impressive to the Romans that they called it “magistralis” (masterful). This forceful northern by north western wind that reaches wind speeds up to wind force 9 (storm force) often blows over the Rhône valley in Southern France .
Cy (Aeris Cyclone Feline Fantasy) is our blue tabby boy.

At birth his weight was (like his brothers) 131 gram.

The Cyclone is also a severe tropical storm with wind speeds of 150 up to 250 km per hour. This storm blows over the Indian Ocean and the Bengal Gulf. Our Cy has the "eye of the storm" drawn on his sides !

On Friday July 1st (day 64) Jay started giving signs that the delivery was at hand.

With her last, very difficult labor in mind, at 16:00 hour we called for help of our “mentors” Gregor and Joyce. All evening Jay was sighing and had “hard belly’s”. At 22:30 she lost the mucus clod that seals the uterus and we thought: it is happening! But no… the tension belly’s diminished and Jay calmed down. It was not until 24 hours later, on July 2 nd at 23:40 that she started to have contractions again. Jay was fairly calm, but was determent to have Taro or MayDay nearby and every time she stood up to go to those two, the contractions faded away.

It was already the next day at 3:49 in the morning that the first kitten was born.: a perfect little cream tabby boy of 89 gram. Unfortunately his birth had been to slow, he was born still… A half hour later, at 4:19 with a laud scream of Jay the second kitten was born. A brown tabby very lively girl of 118 gram! And again, a half hour later at 4:44 the third: a cream tabby boy! This one also took a lot of afford of Jay coming out! No wonder, the little guy was 131 gram and was delivered in a breach position: Gregor had to pull him out by his tail! But after this one Jay was certainly wide enough! The next kitten took her time: she was born at 5:16! A beautiful blue torby girl of 105 gram. The last kitten arrived at 6:45. again a big boy of 131 gram, but this one is a blue tabby guy!

Altoug the x-ray that the vet took showed just five kittens, Joyce and I were not so convinced that Jay was done after the fifth kitten was born. Even Jay herself gave signs that she was nor yet ready… At 16:00 that afternoon I called the vet for advice. He told me to administer one shot Piton (3 cc oxytoxine), but the only thing that came out was a blood clot and a little bit of mucus. The next day we were totally convinced that there would be no more kittens

It was all right by mum to take pictures of the baby’s ...
... but only if she could be there herself !
So the whole photo shoot...
... had to be made ...
... under the watchful eye of the caring mum!
But oh ...
... it was mum after all ...
... that created these cute little storm winds !
